Use of technology in the cemetery’s tourism: A case study about the visitation in the Consolação Cemetery, in São Paulo.

In the scope of the cemetery tourism, technology has already been significant in helping visitors to obtain detailed information about buried personalities and funerary art. However, the cemetery’s tourism is still not widespread in Brazil, being the Consolação Cemetery the pioneer in promoting touristic visits. In this way, this paper has the aim to analyze the current situation of the cemetery’s tourism in the visitation to the Consolação Cemetery, in São Paulo. The study, considered a qualitative research, was developed based on literature and documentary review, visits to the cemetery, and interviews conducting with the responsible for the administration of visitation service and technology of the selected necropolis. As a result of this paper, it is observed that a detailed demand and profile survey of interested visitors in the Consolação Cemeteryas a leisure / tourism activity is required in order to implant a project based on Augmented Reality (AR) technology for promoting of self-guided visits.Downloads
