Abstract

Although the classic methodology used in anthropological research during several decades has produced results of great importance to the understanding of human groups, the theory of social representations – elaborated by Serge Moscovici – is presented here as one more efficient methodological tool to the capture and analysis of data and have as the final objective the understanding of the social and cultural relations collectively established between the individuals. With this purpose, the article discusses the genesis, the theoretical dimensions and the methodological procedures of this concept and its applicability in the extent of Social Psychology and Social Sciences, especially in the ethnographic work, starting from a theoretical and specific text.
