The Right to Leisure and Hospitality: Analysis of an Urban Park Based on the Tourqual Scale

The democratization of access to leisure is crucial for well-being, especially in the face of urbanization, which reduces domestic spaces and increases the demand for public leisure areas. This study analyzed the quality of tourism and leisure experience at Antenor Martins Park in Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul. Used a mixed-method approach that included a literature review and field research with questionnaires based on the Tourqual Scale adapted for urban parks, as well as concepts of urban hospitality. Additionally, a SWOT analysis of local public leisure policies was conducted. The results revealed that users appreciate the convenient location, proximity to the city center, surrounding commerce, operating hours, landscaping, and the comfort provided by shaded areas. However, opportunities for improvement were identified, such as enhancing basic infrastructure (restrooms, drinking fountains, leisure equipment), maintaining structures, increasing security, and improving rest points and social areas. These advancements can elevate the quality of leisure and hospitality experiences. The study suggests exploring alternative funding strategies to overcome budget limitations and recommends expanding the research to other city spaces, strengthening the diagnosis and promoting more inclusive and high-quality leisure environments.
